October 15, 2026 — Apep Bar Newsroom. A brief online video showing what appears to be a dark figure partly concealed behind a tree has revived discussion of the Hidebehind, a creature from North American lumberjack folklore.
What the clip shows — and doesn’t
Coverage dated October 13 says the approximately 30-second clip spread online beginning around October 4 and was described as having been filmed in an Irish forest. The photographer, exact filming location, and recording date have not been established.
Those gaps matter. An image can be eerie without establishing that an unknown animal, supernatural entity, or cryptid was present. Perspective, costume, editing, and ordinary objects remain possibilities until the original recording can be examined.
From legend to viral mystery
The Hidebehind belongs to logging-camp storytelling traditions, where a creature was said to conceal itself behind trees. Applying that name to an unidentified figure in Ireland is a modern interpretation rather than a verified species identification.
For now, the responsible description is an unverified viral video with a folklore connection.
